Obituary of Harold Eugene Rutherford

Harold was born Sep 1, 1929 and passed away Mar 23, 2013. Harold served in the US Army for 30 years with tours in both Korea and Vietnam. He met and married his wife of 62 years, Reiko, while stationed in Tokyo, Japan as a member of Gen. Douglas MacArthur's honor guard. In 1968, he was stationed at the US Embassy in Saigon during the Tet Offensive. He later was stationed at the Sacramento Army Depot where he achieved the rank of Sargeant Major. He received many military decorations including the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, w/palm. After his military service he worked for the federal government in civil service at the Sacramento Army Depot until he finally retired in 1995. After retirement he was involved in community service as a member of the VFW. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Reiko; his two sons, Michael and Daniel; and three grandchildren, Shaun, Stacey, and Shelly.
