Obituary of Ruth Mary Garcia
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth was born on February 14, 1930 in Gallup, NM, and called back home on March 2, 2015 in Sacramento, CA. Ruth was raised in California and graduated in 1948 from Courtland Joint Union High School. On September 3, 1948 she married her soul mate Alfred Garcia. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together where they supported each other's passions such as drag racing, serving the community, and spending time with family. The Garcia family found success by working together. Their Pro gasser, called Supermex, received multiple awards thanks to the hard work and dedication of Alfred Sr. (master mechanic), Alfred Jr. (driver), Rinty (crew member), Darlene and grandchildren (pit crew). Ruth's passion to help others in the spirit of the Lord could be seen in her work in the community. During her 31 years of exemplary service as a personnel administrator in the cannery industry she was known for her spirit of love and compassion. After retiring Ruth decided to dedicate her time to volunteer service and joined the Mercy Guild in 1992. She wore her pink jacket in pride as she comforted patients and their families at Mercy General Hospital by supervising the information desk, gift shop, and post surgery waiting areas. Her most treasured passion was serving as a Eucharistic minister where she would take Holy Communion out into the Sacramento community. One of her most notable characteristics is her ability to open her heart to all and make them feel at home with her wisdom and humor. Her strength and grace touched the hearts of many and will carry on in the lives she influenced. Her life is an example of the Lord's love for us all, and how that love can transcend time. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Garcia Sr.; and her parents Jessie and SerilaVigil. She is survived by her children Alfred Jr. and Gay Garcia., Rinty Garcia, and Darlene and Jonathan Biederer; and her two beloved sisters Mary Powers (Michael) and Marge Wolfe. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Allison (JP), Alfred, Jaimee (Elliott), Kelli (Buck), Kim, Kristin, Michael, and Nicki; and her Great Grandchildren: Abigail, Andrew, Elliott Jr., Isabel, Jaeda, Jason, Jessica, Jordan, Lena, Noah and Sofia. As well as countless beloved extended family members and friends.
