Obituary of Rennie Calhoun

Retired Staff Sergeant Rennie Calhoun Jr. was born on December 5th, 1940 in Augusta, GA to the late Rennie and Ora Bell Calhoun. He was one of 13 children. Preceding him in death were his parents, and three siblings: Baby, James, and Richard Calhoun. Rennie joined the church at an early age. Eventually, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Elethia Lucille Tilson on February 4th, 1962. From this union, three sons were born and three more children were adopted: a step son and three daughters. Later, he joined the United States Army where he served for 24 years. He served as a Master Chef and a Recruiting Officer. Upon retiring, he attended Thomas More College in Ohio an he completed his Associates' Degree in Criminal Justice. After moving to Sacramento, Rennie joined the Foundation of Faith, Church of God in Christ. Rennie also worked for the United States Postal Service for 10 years. It was well known among family and friends that Rennie had a great love for music and musical instruments; especially the acoustic guitar and even more, he loved the piano and organ. He was extremely fond of collecting and repairing classic cars. Rennie leaves to cherish his memory his loving, devoted wife of 53 years, Elethia Calhoun of Carmichael, CA, three sons: Antonio and Andre of Rancho Cordova, CA, Marcus and his wife Michelle Calhoun of Antelope, CA, daughter in law: Vanessa Calhoun of Rancho Cordova, CA, one step son: Glenn Burroughs of Sacramento, CA, three adopted daughters: Rene Evon Calhoun of Sacramento CA, Markela Lacy and Devonna White of Oakland CA. Also keeping Rennie in loving memory are six brothers and their wives: Charles and Francis Calhoun, David and Sandra Calhoun, Willie and Elizabeth Calhoun, Jessie and Florine Calhoun, and Johnny and Marion Calhoun, two sisters: Dora Calhoun and Lois Calhoun, sisters and brothers in law: Minnie and Richard Cox, Twanda and Leland Finney (all) of Washington, DC, brother in law: Nathaniel Tilson of Savannah, GA, sister in law: Florence Calhoun of Washington, DC, and Margaret Braithwaite of Savannah, GA, fifteen grand children, six great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives an friends.
