Merle Allen Benson Born September 30, 1931 in Legion, Texas to parents Johnnie Lee Benson and Mary Ellen Chilton. Passed away September 2, 2010 in Sacramento, California. Merle served his country in Korea with the United States Army as a Sergeant. He graduated from American River College in 1957, and married Janice Faye Akins on January 14, 1966. He worked as an instrument mechanic for the US Army with McClellan Air Force Base for 5 years, and in Corpus Christi, TX., for 30 years. Merle lived in Corpus Christi for 45 years before moving to Elk Grove, where he lived for the last 3 years. Survived by his beloved wife Janice, sons Michael Eugene Benson and Steven Alan Hollister; daughter Kathy Lea Benson, step-daughter Debra Ressler, grandson Michael Benson Jr., 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many loving family and friends. A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 10:00am at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will be private.
