Jill Toups born June 4, 1923 in Thibodaux, Louisiana to Scott Toups and Bertha Polinaire. Jill was the only surviving male child, and was nicknamed "Man"-- Uncle Man. He was the last born of thirteen siblings. He made his heavenly transition on December 23, 2017. Jill enlisted into the United States Navy in 1939 he was 16 years old and served a cook's mate until the start of World War II. He then served as a Stewart's Mate First Class on the U.S.S. Thetis Bay, an escort carrier, from 1944-1949, delivering supplies for the war effort. In 1950 Jill joined the Merchant Marines and served as a cook during the Korean War. Jill later retired after acquiring a back injury in the line of duty. Jill was articulate and had many hobbies; he was an independent thinker and willing to help anyone who needed him. Jill leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Jill (Chickie) Toups; his son, Larry Toups, his niece, Maryam Shabazz-Chew and her husband Jim Chew; two grandchildren, Larry and Jameela; five great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Jill was preceded in death by his parents Scott and Bertha Toups, his wife Alice Toups, his son Scott O.Toups, the mother of his children Emelda Toups and his sisters and brothers.
