Obituary of Shirley G. Himelright
Shirley Grace Himelright, 94, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, December 24, 2023 in Sacramento, California. She was born July 10, 1929 in Akron, Ohio. She was the youngest of five children and preceded in death by her parents, Perry Robert Schneider and Leona (Riley) Kindle, her two brothers and two sisters, former spouse Robert E. Himelright and beloved son, Conrad E. Himelright. She is survived by her loving daughter, Betty Jane Thompson (John E.), her grandchildren Rhett Thompson (Debra), Kimberly Knight (James) and her nine great grandchildren.
Shirley was a very talented and hard-working young girl. At a young age, Shirley's interest in music led her to learn the fife and play with the Daughters of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Akron, Ohio.
In 1954 she moved to California, where she had a career with the Pacific Bell Telephone Company for 11 years. After leaving Pacific Bell, she chose to pursue a new career as bookkeeper for the O.K. Tire Store Company (owned by her former husband) before retiring in 1987.
After retiring she continued to pursue the activities that she loved such as art (drawing and painting), sewing, decorating, entertaining, cooking, gardening, fishing, golf, bowling, euchre, and other card games. She loved to travel and take cruises and was fortunate to be able to visit Hawaii, Alaska, and Egypt amongst other locations.
Shirley was generous not only with her material possessions, but with her love, compliments, and time. She enjoyed providing quick but witty responses, she loved to laugh, and was always willing to share a wink and smile. She will be forever missed here on Earth, but her family rejoices in the day they will see and be with her again in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held on January 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Garden Chapel, at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, located at 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA.
