Obituary of Shireen Manni Devi Dutt

Mrs. Shireen Manni Devi Dutt, the eldest daughter of late Mr and Mrs Chagan Lal Bala, formerly of Rakiraki, Fiji, and wife of late Mr Indar Dutt, passed away on 25 January 2022 in Sacramento, California. 

Shireen spent her early childhood in Rakiraki, then moved to Lautoka into boarding and finished high school at Jasper Williams Girls High. She trained and qualified as a primary school Teacher at Nasinu Teachers College. She taught in many different schools all over Fiji for approximately 35 years, including the Fiji School for the Blind, and retired in 1996 at the age of 55 as the Head Teacher from Dilkusha Boys School in Nausori. 

Shireen was woman of many interests.  She loved singing (performed on Fiji Radio in her early teaching days), dancing, drama, cooking, fashion design and sewing, gardening, sports (excellent netballer!), and keeping pets. She was an entrepreneur as well and had started a couple of businesses in Fiji. She had patience and empathy and continued to shower those sentiments on all she met.  

Several years after the passing of her husband Master Raj Kumar in Fiji, she married Mr Indar Dutt and migrated to the United States in 2003.

Shireen did a lot for all whom she knew during her life. Now, it is her turn to rest peacefully in the care of our God.  Those we love will always be with us, even when they cannot be physically present; they walk beside us, forever loved and missed.
