Obituary of Melvin Leroy Alcorn

Melvin Leroy Alcorn was born on September 28, 1936 in Merced, CA.  He passed away of natural causes on November 27, 2021.  Melvin is survived by sisters Pearl Koday and Billie Egolf, brother Jimmie Alcorn and a large, extended family, including a special relationship with his niece, Lyndel Egolf and friend and dedicated caregiver of many years, Michael Barney.  

Melvin graduated from McClatchy High School where he was a member of the acapella choir.  He had a beautiful singing voice and loved music, especially opera.  He was a person of high intellect, who chose to delve deeply into varied areas of interest, collecting related to those interests, including an extensive collection of Sherlock Holmes items.  He was a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society in Jackson, CA. where his collection will be gifted.  He loved books and learning about places he had never been and subjects he had never formally studied, then sharing that knowledge with others.  Most of his working career involved antiques, memorabilia, historical house restoration and tool making at Martin Sprocket and Gear.  Melvin was a kind and caring person who didn’t ask for much but gave freely.  He loved animals, especially his cats, and was kind to all creatures, big and small.  Melvin’s ashes will be interred at Sacramento Memorial Lawn.
